Brief Bio
I have been working as a practitioner psychologist for 20 years. I have previously worked with clients in the NHS and in university student counselling and for the last 13 years in private practice.
I have undergone extensive training and worked with clients using person-centred, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioural therapy. My preferred approach is an integration of these elements. I describe my main way of working as relational cognitive behaviour therapy as clients explore the impact of unhelpful ways of thinking on their feelings and behaviour, within an empathic relationship with the therapist. In this supportive context, clients can challenge their thinking and develop more adaptive ways of being.
I adhere by the codes of ethics for the Health Professions Council (HPC) and British Psychological Society (BPS) and abide by their professional standards and practices.

Qualifications and experience
1st Class BA Hons Psychology. Postgraduate diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Sen Accred. MBACP. Cert Supervision. EMDR qualified.
My original training was person centred. I work now as an integrative humanistic therapist, integrating Person centred, CBT, EMDR and other modalities in which I have trained.
I have designed and delivered accredited counselling and counselling supervision Diplomas. I have a particular interest in quality counselling being available in the NHS and charitable sectors. I was founder CEO of Oasis-Talk which delivered the NHS talking therapy services in Bristol and South Gloucestershire. I currently work as Director of the Manu Centre in Bradford on Avon, which integrates physical, emotional and community health for wellbeing from a whole person perspective. I have my own private practice here for counselling, supervision and consultancy where I am also evolving a developmental approach in working with couples.
Claire Hoad
About me
I am a qualified Humanistic Integrative Counsellor working with adults offering both long term and short term therapy. I am Person Centred in my approach, and can offer help with a range of areas including :
anxiety
depression
bereavement
trauma
abuse
eating disorders
bi polar disorder – and many more.
However, I like to see beyond labels and look towards the whole person underneath.
I seek to provide a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space to talk, where you can reflect on any difficulties or life concerns that may be troubling you. I offer a warm and gentle approach to counselling. Beginning from a Person Centred place, I work in a responsive and integrative way - taking the feel of what you need as the guide. I work in person on Friday mornings at the Manu centre, and on Wednesdays in Devizes.
I believe that the relationship between counsellor and client holds the power to heal and make change possible. Together we begin a journey, building the trust between us as we go along. We discover your inner resources and strengths, and might uncover hidden patterns of relating and behaving. This can bring about an understanding of the Self. This process can take time, so I offer an open ended form of counselling, where the counselling space is yours for as long as you need it.
Training, qualifications & experience
Bsc Psychology (Hons) University of Hertfordshire
Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
Certificate of Higher Education in Humanistic Counselling
I have an interest in working to support carers, having spent many years working in health and social care, and social service sectors. I have worked in elderly peoples homes, with people who have learning disabilities, and with children/young adults with profound physical and learning disabilities. I am very keen to combine my experiences, and demonstrate how counselling can be used with these groups.
I am a registered member of the BACP, so adhere to their code of ethics.
